The author of this blog, Steve Bloom, is a professor of physics and astronomy at Hampden-Sydney College where he has taught and worked on research in high energy astrophysics for 17 years.

He lives with his wife and daughter near the campus of HSC.

His hobbies include cycling, running, genealogy and, though he isn’t very good at it, guitar.

He got the idea for his recent book, Physics and Astronomy of Science Fiction, after teaching two different Honors seminars related to science fiction with Professors Marc Hight (philosophy) and Steele Nowlin (English).
